Bedford Big Band feat. Greg Abate

  • The Dance Hall 7 Walker Street Kittery, ME, 03904 United States (map)

The Bedford Big Band is thrilled to present an afternoon of big band music with saxophonist Greg Abate as a featured guest artist. Under the musical direction of Karen Sayward, the 19-piece band is comprised of talented musicians from New Hampshire and Massachusetts, with a regular performance schedule of private functions, events, and a Summer Concert Series at various New Hampshire venues. In addition to the swinging standard repertoire of the 30’s and 40’s along with contemporary Latin and pop selections, several of Greg’s original big band compositions will be highlighted at this event. His improvisational skills and genuine audience rapport are first rank in today’s modern jazz scene.

Who is Greg Abate?

For those unfamiliar with Greg’s playing, look no further than the company he keeps for assurance of his artistry. He has recorded with Phil Woods, Kenny Barron, Claudio Roditi, Rufus Reid, Ben Riley, George Mraz, and Kenny Washington, to name a few. After working as an in-demand sideman, playing with legendary figures such as Ray Charles, Tony Bennett, and Mel Torme, Greg ventured out on his own, performing his hard bop, fusion style music throughout the United States, Canada, Europe, and Russia, at Jazz Festivals, Societies, and Clubs.

“Greg Abate is considered by jazz writers and aficionados to be one of the most exciting saxophone players out there today.” -Mike Joyce, Washington Post
