Clifford Cameron: A Walk in The Woods
5 years ago, pianist-composer Clifford Cameron recorded and released his genre-bending debut album Katahdin, featuring some of the brightest new improvisers and musical voices on the New York scene. This recording would serve as a snapshot of his time in New York City before moving to Maine, leaving behind the trains, subways and dollar pizza for the farms, forests and fields. In that time he has reunited with his family, released several albums of original music and said farewell to his ailing father. Such a turbulent and shifting course of years has led him to lean hardest on the things that never fail to offer support and nourishment: being out in nature with his dog, Alpine, and creating music.
A Walk in The Woods takes us through all four seasons and back again. This music winds through the sometimes haunted, sometimes golden woods, past the stone-walled fields that meet the coastline and always homeward on the stretching road. The musical content oscillates between the minutely composed, to the entirely improvised, with the ensemble comprised of some of the most creative musicians in Maine playing orchestral, folk and modern jazz timbres.
