Jazz Casual: Josh Sinton & Jeb Bishop

  • The Dance Hall 7 Walker Street Kittery, ME, 03904 United States (map)

Josh Sinton + Jeb Bishop

Though they’ve been friends for many decades, Josh Sinton (baritone sax) and Jeb Bishop (trombone) didn’t play together until 2015 when they both performed in Tobias Klein’s little big band Spinifex Maximus. Since that time, they’ve been developing a unique approach to duo playing rooted both in their shared love of bass frequencies as well as the breadth and depth of the past 60 years of creative music. They’re touring throughout New England this Fall in preparation for their first recording as a duo. They’re incredibly excited to bring music to the good folks of Kittery and can’t wait to hear what sounds will transpire on Sep. 29th!

Josh Sinton is a baritone saxophonist/low woodwindist/composer/improviser who has been part of the bustling creative music scene of Brooklyn, NY for the past twenty years. He’s played with a wide range of musicians including Anthony Braxton, Nate Wooley, Charlie Kohlhase, Philip Wachsmann, Mark Sanders, Tom Rainey, Jonathan Finlayson and Darcy James Argue. Currently he leads the group Predicate with Finlyason, Rainey and Christopher Hoffman. He was also the leader of Ideal Bread, the critically-lauded Steve Lacy repertory band. His music can be heard at https://joshsinton.bandcamp.com/, his playing can be seen at https://www.youtube.com/@sinzheimers and his thoughts can be perused at www.joshsinton.com

Jeb Bishop has been a mainstay of creative music both here in the U.S. (in Chicago, Boston and North Carolina) as well as all over Europe. He was a member of the Vandermark Five and Brotzmann Tentet as well having long-running musical relationships with Eugene Chadbourne, Jaap Blonk, Joe Morris, Mats Gustafsson, Weasel Walter and Dave Rempis. He’s appeared on over one-hundred records and has played innumerable festivals throughout Europe and the U.S. His recordings can be heard at https://jebbishop.bandcamp.com/ and he can be seen playing all over YouTube.
