The Power of Four
Beginning with the melodious Rosamunde movement of Schubert’s quartet in A minor, we move on to the Scherzo of Dohnanyi’s Serenade for String Trio and Lysenko's haunting Prayer for Ukraine. Oboist Amy Dinsmore joins us for ‘An Invocation’, a tone poem by Steven Sérpa based on poetry by Jeffery Beam (https://jefferybeam.com/ ). We end with Antonin Dvořák’s lyrical American quartet, redolent with themes of Americana – the sound of a train chugging along the track, the call of birds to one another, a Native American prayer ritual and the voices of churchgoers singing their hymns.
