Essex Piano Trio is celebrating spring 2022 with “A French Conversation among Friends.” The concert opens with EPT’s own arrangement of Camille Saint-Saëns’ “The Swan,” the most beloved movement from his Carnival of the Animals, followed by the exquisite “Lento” movement of Cécile Chaminade’s Piano Trio No. 2, which is sometimes reminiscent of “The Swan.” Germaine Tailleferre‘s Piano Trio, much more modern in sound, reflects the sparkle of French life in the 1920s but transcends any particular place or era with its graceful beauty and sophisticated wit. The second half of the program includes the serene first movement of Gabriel Fauré’s Piano Trio, written in the last year of his life, and closes with Claude Debussy’s boisterous Trio that exudes vitality and joy as the precocious teenager explores this medium with the enthusiasm of someone in love with the music of his era. The concert will be presented in Essex Piano Trio’s characteristic audience-friendly format, which involves interesting music interspersed with casual commentary designed to actively involve audience members in the performance.
