New-Orleans-style jazz band The Soggy Po’ Boys will play a concert to benefit LOWERNINE.org, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization rebuilding Katrina-damaged homes in the Lower Ninth Ward of New Orleans.
The Soggy Po’ Boys serve their jazz messy , mixing brass-fueled mayhem with spirituals, Meters-style old-school funk, and the Caribbean side of the New Orleans tradition. Now in their 10th year as one of New England’s most unique and in-demand groups, you will no doubt hear the heavy influence of the New Orleans sound across the band and in the stories told by their original tunes. Despite the scope of its sound, the outfit is only seven people, and thrives on the interplay and group dynamics that bring this music to life.
The Po’ Boys have learned and gained a lot from New Orleans and they now want to give a little back - 100% of the band's proceeds from the show will go to lowernine.org - a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to the long-term recovery of New Orleans’ historic Lower Ninth Ward following Hurricane Katrina and the levee breaches of 2005. The organization rebuilds homes for pre-Katrina residents and mitigates blight in this neighborhood. Using volunteer labor under skilled staff supervision, lowernine.org rebuilds flood-damaged homes and brings the cost of construction to approximately 30% of open market rates. Since 2007, lowernine.org has completed 88 full rebuilds and more than 250 housing repairs, such as siding and roof replacements.
The Dance Hall is proud to host to this event. Please come, listen, dance, and help support a great cause!
